What is RSS, and how is it used in AfterClass
RSS, or (Really Simple Syndication) makes it possible for everyone to keep abreast of additions to a teachers AfterClass page as well as classroom pages, in an automated manner that can be channeled into an RSS reader. RSS readers allow any internet user to combine feeds from all of their favorite websites into one single location, without having to visit each site every time a user wants to see if there is a new posting. RSS is also referred to as a "news feed" or a "channel". Through RSS, users can subscribe to blogs and news items as well as podcasts. Users will have to have access to their own RSS reader.

Types of RSS Feeds

Users are able to subscribe to three types of RSS feeds, a personal feed, a teacher specific feed, and a feed for the community calendar for the entire school. The personal feed will contain information regarding all classrooms, and groups that each user is a member of, as well as the feeds for all of their teachers. Information that could be included in this RSS feed could be homework assignments, new blog posts, files added within a classroom, or grades. Parents can sign up for an RSS feed that combines information for all of their children. Users can also sign up for the RSS feed for the community calendar. This will contain information regarding events that have been added to the community calendar.
