What are the Daily Digest and Recent Activity digest emails?

SchoolFusion sends out two types of daily emails, the Recent Activity Digest and the Daily Event Digest. This FAQ will tell you what the Daily Digest and Recent Activity digest emails are, the information they contain, how to sign up and when the emails are sent out. Please see below for detailed descriptions.

1. Recent Activity Digest

You can register for this event through your “My Personal Settings” link located within your Personal Dashboard.

Users are automatically signed up for this digest when your SchoolFusion account is created. This includes updates from FusionPages (including classrooms) that a user and their child(ren) are members of.

Any information that is included in the Recent Activity Digest email will also be included in a users “Recent Activity” posting. This is available to the user upon logon, or through the “Recent Activity” link that is available through the user’s Personal Dashboard. For parents, this information is always available for their children via the “My Family” link found in their Personal Dashboard.

If a parent is connected to multiple children at multiple schools, they will receive one email containing information about all of their children, as well as information concerning any FusionPages that the parent is a member of.

The Recent Activity Digest email contains information added to the system within the prior 24 hours, and will contain information for the upcoming three days. In order for parents to be notified of upcoming events in a timely manner, we do suggest that teachers are entering events and assignments into their classrooms at least two days prior to the due date.

This email could potentially include the following information, based on the configuration of each organization, and the information entered by the teacher:

  • Home work assignments
  • Class announcements
  • Class/Group Calendar Events
  • The addition of new Class/ Group files
  • Blog entries by teachers of FusionPages that the user is a member of
  • Responses to any comments that the user has posted
  • Grades
  • Message Center Notifications

It also includes assignments for up to three days into the future. As long as the teacher is posting assignments a few days before the due date, the parent should receive this posting in their notification email ahead of the actual due date.  The email will break down this information by Classroom/Group Name. For Example: Math 101 Homework.

Teachers need to have their homework assignments posted at prior to 3:00 PM in their respective time zone, if they want them to be included in that day's daily digest email. If items are entered after that time, then they will be included in the next day’s emails.

Users can login to the system at any time to access the Recent Activity for current information, as well as signing up for a personalized RSS feed. Please see the HelpCenter (helpcenter.schoolfusion.us) for more information on RSS.

2. Daily Event Digest – This email contains information regarding the community calendar.

You can sign up for either of the digests, or modify the notification setting by following these steps:

  1. Login to your site
  2. In your Personal Dashboard, which for most sites is located in the left navigation bar, click on “My Personal Settings”
  3. Click on the “Navigation” tab, there are three options:
    1. The Daily Activity Notifications – This is the email that all users are automatically signed up for. This email will contain information regarding all FusionPages that you and your child(ren) are members of. It will be sent every weekday if information has been entered within the proper time frame. If information has not been entered within the proper time frame, a daily email will not be sent.
    2. Change Messaging Options – This allows you to select how you will be notified when a message sent through the SchoolFusion Message Center. The two options are:
      1. Receive an email for each message - An email will be sent immediately when someone sends a message.
      2. Do not receive an email - instead, you may be notified of a new message when you log in, as well as your nightly Recent Activity Email.
    3. Set up Daily Digests – This email includes information contained within the community calendar that belongs to the site where your Account lives. You will need to sign up for this email, and have three options:
      1. Send me a daily "Your School Digest" the day of. In this case the email will be sent the day of the event.
      2. Send me a daily "Your School Digest" the day before. In this case, the email will be sent the day before the event.
      3. Do not send me the daily "Your School Digest"

NOTE: If you wish to sign up to receive the Daily Digest from other schools in your district, you will need to have a separate user account at each site where you want to receive the Daily Digest. Please contact the site administrator to request an additional account.

 
When are the emails sent?

Emails are sent Monday through Thursday. Emails are not sent Friday and Saturday, but the information that would be contained in these emails is compiled into one email that is sent Sunday night.

Emails are sent based on time zones, and continues randomly (not based on organizational membership) until all SchoolFusion users receive their notification email. The timing of the email distribution cannot be set specifically for a particular school. It is a system-wide process that compiles and distributes all emails.

  • Eastern Time Zone: delivery expected between 3pm and 8:30 EST
  • Central: delivery expected between 6:30pm and 8:30pm CST
  • Mountain: delivery expected between 5:30pm and 8:30pm MST
  • Pacific: delivery expected between 5pm and 8:30pm PST

The order in which emails are sent is randomly generated and cannot be scheduled to be sent to a certain organization at a particular time. This means that some users in an organization will receive emails at the beginning of the process, while others will receive emails towards the end of the process.

If you are not receiving either email please check the following:

  • The user is signed up to receive the email    
  • Information has been added to the class or group. If no information has been added, or is not added in time, no email will be sent.
  • For parents, please check to make sure they are still connected to the child(ren)
  • Please check your spam filter to ensure that emails from SchoolFusion are not blocked.
  • Please check your emails spam folder on your email to ensure that emails from SchoolFusion are not being delivered there.
  • Please verify that the correct email account is attached to the SchoolFusion Account.
