How do I directly link to a FusionPage, such as a classroom, from top or side navigation?
Linking to external pages can be used within your site to create links to absolutely anything. This method can be used to create links directly to documents, such as PDF or word documents, or Excel files. It can also be used to create links directly to a FusionPage, such as a specific classroom, athletic team or department page.
Use this to create a link directly to a FusionPage, rather than asking users to access a specific FusionPage via the FusionPage listing. For example, create a link directly to the Library page.
The first step is to access the FusionPage that you would like to link directly to, making sure that you are logged into the site. Copy the URL of the classroom site from the address window, at the top of your browser.
Copy this URL into either a word document or a notepad document. Several portions of the URL need to be deleted before it can be used to create a direct link to a group page. Remove everything from http:// to the forward slash before the word module. In this example, we will be removing http://4th-grade-rm-206.downing.cps.schoolfusion.us.
Find the ampersand (&) that appears before the session ID number. Delete everything after this ampersand, marking sure to also delete the ampersand. Make sure to not delete the page ID number; which will appear something like this”&gid757146”.
The URL that we will use to create a direct link to a group page is this:
/modules/groups/integrated_home.phtml?&gid=457146
From website administration, select where you would like this link to live, either top or side navigation, and then access the “Link to external page” button. Give your link a title. In the Link URL box, delete “http://” and paste the modified group URL into this box.
Check the box “Open new window” if you would like the document to open in another window, and then click the “Add Link” button.
